Lay Member
I am a computer scientist and engineering graduate, but I have worked in education for more than fifty years. I began my career as a classroom teacher, introducing computing into the curriculum in two schools and later supporting the development of internet use in schools. Throughout my career, I have held a range of leadership roles, including subject leader, local authority consultant, deputy headteacher and Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools.
I now work as an education and safeguarding consultant, supporting schools, local authorities and multi-academy trusts. My work focuses primarily on safeguarding policy and practice, alongside school improvement. At a national level, I have undertaken school and leadership assessments and have considerable experience of investigating and resolving complaints.
Beyond my professional role, I serve in a voluntary basis on school admission appeal panels and two specialist curriculum committees for doctors in training. I hope to bring this and my expertise in education, safeguarding and governance to BADS as a Lay Council Member.
