Bringing BADS into Every Day Surgery Unit

BADS has launched a new initiative to help Day Surgery Units promote learning, share best practice and stay connected through dedicated BADS noticeboards. Back

BADS Board Derby

Introduced at the 2026 BADS Annual Conference, the BADS Boards Programme aims to establish a dedicated BADS noticeboard in every Day Surgery Unit in the UK.

The boards will provide a focal point for sharing BADS news, promoting conferences, events and educational opportunities, celebrating local achievements, highlighting examples of good practice and keeping teams informed about developments in day surgery.

BADS President Karen Harries said:

"Our ambition is simple: to see a BADS Board in every Day Surgery Unit across the UK. Day surgery has a vital role to play in reducing waiting times and improving the patient experience, so staying connected across our community and sharing what works has never been more important."

More than 60 people have already signed up as BADS Board Champions. These champions act as local contacts for the initiative within their units, keeping their boards up to date so colleagues stay informed about BADS news, events and opportunities. They also help highlight local achievements and examples of good practice.

One of the first BADS Boards is at Royal Derby Hospital, where the team has created a dedicated space for day surgery news, ideas and achievements.
