Council Member
Salford Royal Hospital
I am a Consultant Gynaecologist at Salford Royal Hospital, Greater Manchester. I graduated from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London, and completed specialty training in obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive medicine in London and Newcastle. I was awarded a postgraduate research degree (Doctor of Medicine) from Newcastle University.
I have a special interest in reproductive surgery and ambulatory gynaecology. I am the lead Consultant for a one-stop operative outpatient hysteroscopy service which helped achieve the Trust’s goals for operating theatre and bed capacity. My workload includes regular day case theatre sessions for minimally invasive gynaecological procedures and major gynaecological surgery.
I am actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and hold a position as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. I have published several scientific papers and has been a speaker in national and international medical meetings. I lead and facilitate on the RCOG Basic Practical Skills Course, London. In the past, I have been involved in national policy making as a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) guidelines committee and RCOG clinical assurance group. I have served as a Member of the Advance Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) UK Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.
I became an honorary BADS council member as the RCOG representative in 2019. During this time, I led the development and publication of the BADS Day Case Gynaecology handbook, and I was involved in the organisation of the Day Case Surgery in Gynaecology conference. I took the position of ordinary BADS Council member in June 2023.
