We have now made the difficult decision not to hold a face to face conference in 2021. We feel this is the responsible course of action in the current climate with the surge in cases of COVID-19 in many areas of the UK, resulting in increased pressure on NHS staff and general uncertainty as to whether it would be possible to hold a COVID safe conference in line with government guidelines.
As an alternative, we are intending to hold, free of charge for all BADS members, a one-day Virtual Conference on Thursday 18th March 2021, with a strong focus on the importance of day surgery in the recovery and sustainability of elective surgery during COVID-19 and beyond.
Topics to be covered include:
- COVID-19 and the challenges facing elective surgery
- Why should we default to day surgery to maintain elective pathways
- Delivering day surgery during COVID-19 pressures
- How COVID-19 has changed pre assessment practice
- Recent experiences of how to achieve successful day case Orthopaedics, Gynaecological, Maxillofacial, General Surgery & Urology

There will be gold, silver and bronze awards for high scoring abstracts and the top scoring authors will be invited to deliver oral presentations (pre-recorded) that will be broadcast during a prize paper session at the virtual conference.
