Important Update from BADS: Changes to the Journal of One Day Surgery
Due to the rising costs associated with medical journal indexing, the requirement for paid editorial teams, which BADS is not able to support, and low readership of the journal, BADS has made the difficult decision to discontinue publication of the Journal of One-Day Surgery.
We understand the importance of having accessible, high-quality platforms for publishing day surgery research and clinical work. We would like to highlight that there are several suitable alternative journals, such as 'Ambulatory Surgery', the official journal of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery, where BADS members and other authors can continue to submit their work.
In place of the journal, BADS is focusing on further developing and enhancing its monthly newsletter. The BADS newsletter now reaches a growing readership and features a wide range of user-friendly and engaging content. Each edition includes:
• Updates on national and international day surgery news
• Polls and surveys with results published monthly
• Regular messages from the BADS President
• Reports from recent meetings
• Information on upcoming events, including those with discounts for BADS members
• Advertising from our valued sponsors
• A featured "Day Surgery Unit of the Month" section, showcasing departments making significant contributions to UK day surgery
We believe this transition will allow us to communicate more effectively and provide more timely, relevant content to our members and the wider day surgery community.
Past editions of the Journal between 2017 & 2021 are available to BADS Members via the website below and 2021-2024 editions are freely available via the JODS open source platform.
